Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on safe abortion and family planning services at a tertiary care women’s hospital in Nepal

Background: The COVID-19pandemic emerged as a major public health crisis, which has affected all dimensions of the care system. Sexual and reproductive services were severely affected, leading to decrease in access service utilization, affecting overall women.Methods: A two-year comparative study, before during COVID-19 pandemic, on safe abortion family planning, was conducted at Paropakar maternity women's hospital assess impact utilization.Results: Safe decreased by 34.4%, planning 39%, 2020 compared previous year. Uptake long-acting reversible contraceptives permanent methods most affected. Utilization markedly lockdown, showed persistent decline, even after lockdown lifted.Conclusions: pandemic seriously Nepal due travel restriction, home isolation, resource reallocation, facilities serving only emergencies confusing messages about control. decline these will create additional demand pressure system, resulting from unplanned pregnancies unsafe abortions. Health staffs should be reoriented essential nature emergencies, implications disruption, society country. Pragmatic gender sensitive changes national policies made, ensure that is safeguarded, included emergencies.
